However, the beast meat—probably monster meat—being traded in the neighboring town... it's unlikely to be found near the entrance. Since it has that kind of defilement, something might be happening among the monsters living deeper inside. And what about the people who bring that meat back?
In a way, humans might be more terrifying than monsters.
While thinking about such things, I realized I had crossed the bridge at some point.

「...Can you give me a piggyback ride?」
My timid suggestion was met with a splendid ignore, and Nonnalie briskly headed towards the forest. Ahhh, wait up!

The forest, viewed from the human-side territory across the fissure, had felt much closer. But walking to it now, it was quite a distance, and even the villagers ahead of us hadn't reached it yet.

I sighed, realizing the Demon Forest's darkness runs deep.
Then, suddenly, a cry of 'Gyaa, gyaa!'—from a beast or a monster—rose from the forest, and a flock of black birds simultaneously flew away.
I don't need those horror effects!
