Side Story 1

I was reincarnated into another world and became a witch so I want to live a slow life but the Demon King won't let me go.

[A little after Miya leave the demon king's castle]

Translated by: ME

"Tims, when do you think Miya will be back?"

"Don't ask me."

Dark clouds hang over the Demon King's castle, or rather, the castle is dimly lit.

The two people with dejected looks in Tims' office are the owner of the room, Tims, and Almus, who for some reason is lingering in the room as if it were his own.

With Miya, the capable secretary who revitalized the Demon King's Castle, gone, the atmosphere in the office is heavy and chaotic.

Miya left behind some handy systems and recipes for sweets and tea, but for some reason they don't work well and I feel unsatisfied.

"He was amazing."

When Miya baked it, just smelling the aroma made my heart leap, but now it's just sitting there like a decoration, even though it's the same shape and color.

I felt like if I left it without eating it, Miya would come from somewhere and scold me, saying, "What a waste!" so I waited, but I still couldn't hear her voice.

Even tea used to be reheated with magic as soon as it got cold, but now it's completely cold.

Almus decided to do it himself, and poured magic into the now cold tea, but it evaporated and disappeared.

"She used magic as if it was nothing, but when you think about it, being able to use magic at that level is out of the ordinary. And to be able to disappear without leaving a single trace."

Tims sighed deeply as he flipped through a thick file Miya had prepared titled "Manual."

Once you experience that smoothness, you don't want to go back to that horrible situation where you can't move forward or backward, so you cling to the legacy Miya left behind.

Thanks to the considerable efforts to streamline the process, I thought that if I pushed a little harder, it might be possible to make it work, but I was amazed at Miya's ability to do this all by herself up until now.

"Yeah, I know."

Almus, on the other hand, is begging the demoralized maids to continue making sweets in order to prevent the morale of the Demon King's army from declining.

Fortunately, the maids made most of the sweets for the soldiers, so even without Miya, they are somehow managing.

"But the problem is."

"Ah, the problem is."

The two sighed in unison.

Yes, they can manage if they put in a little effort and push themselves.

Honestly, losing Miya, such a capable right-hand woman, is so painful that it feels like a hole is opening in my stomach, but after all, it's just a job. If I'm busy with my daily work, I'll get used to it eventually.

"When do you think the Demon Lord will come out of his room?"

"I need him to come out... but I'm scared of when he does."

"That's right."

The Demon Lord glanced at the "Resignation" that Miya had written and left behind, and immediately tried to burn it, saying, "Nonsense."

But Miya had kindly cast a spell on the resignation letter, making it impossible to destroy, even if burned or frozen.

The Demon Lord, in a fit of pique, tore the resignation letter apart with brute force, and turned it into ashes with an extremely powerful magic that would normally be used to defeat a large magical beast.

"I'm not getting up until she comes to wake me up!!"

That was a few days ago when he shut himself away.

To the demons, who already have a dull sense of time, it hasn't been that long, but Tims and Almus are secretly worried that if things continue like this, he might really stay asleep until Miya comes back.

"Seriously, what was she angry about?"

"That's the thing. There was no way to get through to her."

"Ugh..."

If they knew the reason, they would use any means to resolve it or apologize profusely to bring her back, but they have no way to do so because they don't know the cause or her whereabouts.

"I'm having the entire Demon Realm searched for her. It may be impossible in a few days, but we should be able to search everywhere in a few months."

"I'm having the soldiers search too, but... Tims, do you really think we'll find her?"

"..."

To be honest, Tims doesn't really think they'll find her even if they search.

Almus probably feels the same way.

Miya, the mysterious demon girl, suddenly and dashingly appeared before them.

She was a bit unusual and small for a demon, and she skillfully used magic in a way that was unimaginable from her appearance. More than that, she revolutionized, or rather, took control of the Demon King's castle in no time with her mysterious knowledge and skills.

Someone with that much ability has seriously quit and left. It won't be easy to find her.

Even in the free and easy lives of the demons, there are many rules that must be followed.

The effort and time required to make them obey is immeasurable.

It is only possible because there is the Demon Lord, an existence that captivates the hearts of the demons.

And it is only because Tims and Almus are direct subordinates of the Demon Lord that they bear the titles of Prime Minister and General, respectively, as the Demon Lord wishes, and use his authority to bring together the masses.

But they were too busy.

The people who work in the castle are all attracted to the Demon Lord, so they will move if instructed, but they have no idea how to give instructions or what methods to use.

There are surprisingly few who are wise enough to sort documents in chronological order.

And those demons who have such wisdom generally have strong magical power and egos, so they wouldn't want to work hard under the Demon Lord's vassals, let alone the Demon Lord himself.

Tims, who was so angry with the excessive workload, demanded that they hire someone with some intelligence, even if it was just for menial labor! Miya appeared just a few days later.

They thought she would run away from the tedious and overly busy work right away, but in just a few days, she quickly cleared the piled-up documents and even accomplished business reforms.

The way her small hands quickly sorted and cleared the documents was truly admirable.

Tims was so amazed by the room becoming cleaner with each blink that he momentarily mistook it for an illusion magic.

Almus, who was envious of Tims, brought Miya into the Demon Lord's army, and the poor environment, typical of a male-dominated workplace, was transformed.

She was an unusual existence, calling herself a "secretary," but demons are generally unusual, so it wasn't a big problem.

Most importantly, the Demon Lord seemed to like Miya quite a bit.

The surrounding demons seemed to think of her as just one of the new favorites, but Tims and Almus, as vassals, somehow sensed it.

A faint and small change in emotion that even the Demon Lord himself probably didn't notice.

The Demon Lord, who was their pride, their boast, and above all, someone they should respect, thought of that small demon girl in a special way.

Just a little, just a little, a feeling of regret sprouted in the two of them, which they intended to keep a secret for the rest of their lives.

They never expected that the person in question would run away.

"Should we have done more?"

"It's not something that would change by forcing it."

Demons, who are long-lived, are patient.

They thought that even if it was impossible now, they could eventually win her over if they took a long time to surround her, but that was just before it happened.

"Demon Lord, how are we going to wake him up?"

"...Should we try bringing some sweets into his bedroom?"

Will he jump up thinking Miya has returned?

Or will he be furious when he finds out it wasn't made by Miya?

"..."

"..."

Either way, it's going to be very, very troublesome.

The two, who were loyal subordinates of the Demon Lord, sighed deeply and held their heads in their hands.
