I Shall Break Off Our Engagement For You
[Chapter 1]
Translated by: ME
"I'm always, sorry..."
Maisie Goddard apologized with her words, but she smiled with an air of excitement.
"It's supposed to be a date..., I hope I'm not intruding..."
"It's okay, Maisie. Don't worry about it."
Silas Haymer smiled kindly at Maisie.
"Right, Felicia?"
Felicia, turned to with a smile, plastered a smile on her face and nodded.
Silas is Felicia's fiancé.
They had just gotten engaged in March, and today, at the end of May, was their eleventh date.
The Earhart Marquis family, Felicia's family, and the Haymer Marquis family, Silas's family, were well-matched in social standing, and Silas, 22, who was training with the Royal Knights, was just the right age for Felicia, 18, who would graduate from the academy this year, so the engagement was decided smoothly.
Silas, with his hazel eyes and dark brownish hair, was quite handsome.
Everyone praised that he and Felicia, with her platinum blonde hair and blue eyes, were a very good match in appearance.
Warm blessings from those around them.
They didn't particularly dislike each other, and in fact, they got along well, so everyone, including themselves, was looking forward to the wedding, believing that they would be able to build a peaceful and happy family if things continued this way.
Everything was going smoothly, and they should have been at the height of happiness, but there was one thing that bothered her.
It was Maisie's presence.
Maisie had accompanied them on all ten of their previous dates.
Today, their eleventh date, was no different.
It was Thursday when they decided to take a long trip in the Earhart Marquis family's carriage to a lake in Huntington County, near the royal capital.
Silas, who had come to the mansion to see her father on business, and Felicia were discussing having a picnic by spreading a sheet on the shore of the lake in the living room.
Then, for some reason, Maisie appeared and asked, "Can I come with you?"
Since Maisie is Felicia's cousin, she throws an implicit question, "as long as Silas is okay with it."
Silas had no choice but to say, "Of course, you can," and, as had happened in the past ten times, they ended up going out together as a trio.
Early summer had arrived, and the glistening lake water sparkled brilliantly.
"I'm... shy, and I don't have any friends... Everyone bullies me... So, I'm really happy to be able to go somewhere with someone like this..."
Maisie said to Silas, looking up at him with a fidgety expression.
She had said something similar the last time and the time before that, but Silas smiled as if he were hearing it for the first time, saying, "I'm glad to hear that."
Once, Felicia jokingly said something like, "Silas is going to be taken by Maisie."
While smiling cheerfully on her face.
Silas laughed too. He said, "No way," and laughed somewhat mockingly.
Then, when Maisie was away, he leaned close to Felicia and said with a serious face, "I'm really not joking."
"You and Maisie are like the moon and a snapping turtle. Do you think I would be attracted to such a plain and dull girl?"
He openly ridiculed Maisie's appearance, with her light brown hair, small eyes that lacked distinct color, and overall plainness.
"Besides, she's just the daughter of a humble baron family."
Felicia felt uncomfortable with Silas's words.
However, she was certain that Maisie would not take Silas away from her, at least in that regard.
...Or so she thought.
At this time, Felicia thinks that she didn't understand the subtleties of the human heart at all.
