The next day. After eating breakfast together as we always do, my husband tended to his duties in his study while I worked diligently at a small side desk on my presentation materials and recipes. The materials were mostly finished yesterday, so all that was left was a final polish.

Developing recipes is so fun that my dreams just keep expanding, making it difficult to narrow down the selection of sweets for the grand opening. It’s a luxurious problem to have, certainly.

When I stole a glance at my husband, I saw him reviewing documents and signing them with incredible speed. He was even circling problematic points with a red pen and leaving detailed comments. Isn't he just too capable?

His long silver hair swayed slightly, and the sight of him wearing glasses was both rare and beautiful. His posture is so perfect, too!

As I gazed at him dreamily, he noticed my stare and looked up from his paperwork. Our eyes met. His lips might have quirked up by a few millimeters, but to anyone else, he would have appeared expressionless. However, his tail was swishing back and forth enough to make up for his face; he was undoubtedly in high spirits.

「Franca, is there something on your mind?」

「I was just admiring how handsome you look while you work, Husband.」

「I see—admiring m—!?」

He must have been incredibly happy, because his tail began to wag violently, thumping against the floor. I wonder if that hurts?

I’m wearing the bracelet I received from Lotus again today, but I haven't heard any inner voices. Was that effect only temporary?

It was something we needed back then, but now we can communicate even without hearing each other’s thoughts. Once things settle down, I’ll have to ask Lotus what exactly that was all about.

After that heartwarming moment, we had lunch together and spent a relaxing afternoon in the courtyard. I looked through my recipe books while my husband browsed travel magazines. I was surprised to see how many sticky notes he had attached. My heart throbbed when he told me there were so many places he wanted to visit with me.

I keep finding more wonderful things about my husband and falling for him more and more.

「The northern magic city where the aurora can be seen would be lovely, but wouldn't it also be interesting to see the Great Pink Tree that blooms only once a year?」

「Oh, what a lovely cityscape. Look, Husband. It says here that there’s a type of tea available there that’s hard to find anywhere else. And over here, the sweets made from the petals of the Great Pink Tree are popular—legend says that if a couple or lovers eat them, they’ll gain eternal love.」

「We are absolutely going.」

「Fufu, yes.」

One promise after another was made as we learned about each other's interests. I discovered that my husband quite likes intricate glassware and enjoys visiting museums and boutiques. I hadn't known that about him, so when I said, 「Then for your next birthday, I’ll give you something you’ll truly love,」 he actually shed tears of joy. It's a secret that I ended up tearing up a bit in response.

Chatting in the garden was so delightful that I secured a promise for our "next" afternoon tea together. We’ll keep building things up like this, bit by bit.

Once we finished resting after our meal, we headed to the kitchen hand-in-hand. It seemed it was my husband's first time ever stepping into the kitchen, and the servants and chefs were moved to tears. Looking back, the people of this estate have been kind from the very beginning. Most of the servants are older than us—old enough to be our parents—and I can truly feel how much they treasure my husband.

I changed into an outfit similar to a maid's uniform for ease of movement and put on my personal apron. My husband’s eyes narrowed at the sight.

「You look adorable in that as well. You look so good I want to squeeze you tight and never let go.」

「Thank you. But the hugs will have to wait until after the sweets are finished.」

「Ugh... understood.」

It was cute how he nodded so obediently, and he looked wonderful with his sleeves rolled up. Since my husband was joining me this time, we decided on simple chocolate brownies.

I had my husband help with the prep work, letting him sift the cake flour, cocoa, and baking powder together. Meanwhile, I mixed the melted chocolate and butter. Then, I had him whisk the eggs, sugar, and milk in a bowl. Once that was done, he helped by gradually pouring the egg mixture into my bowl. I stirred it further until it was glossy, adding two drops of rum essence along the way.

「Now, Husband, please add the flour mixture you sifted.」

「Right.」

「Now we just mix it.」

「So many steps are involved.」

「Fufu, the food we usually eat is even more complex; the chefs do so much preparation and work for us.」

「Is that so?」

「Yes.」

It’s rare for a noble to enter a kitchen. My husband seemed deeply interested in these things he didn't know; though his expression remained stiff, his eyes were very gentle. After that, we put them in the oven for about twenty minutes, and they were done.

I prepared some whipped cream and arranged to have them served at tea time. Since we made quite a lot, I decided to share half with the servants.

As I expected, my husband didn't look displeased even when the servants—people he knew—ate the sweets I had made. Watching him closely, I felt like I could definitely find a compromise here.

Perched in my usual spot on my husband's lap, I fed him a piece of the freshly baked, slightly cooled brownie. He looked happier than usual as he savored and chewed it.

「Mmm... My wife's handmade treats. I could truly call this a supreme masterpiece.」

「Thank you. But it’s a collaboration with you, Husband.」

「Our joint work!」

「That's right.」

If it makes him this happy, I should have started bringing him things myself a long time ago.

「To think my wife would make sweets and feed them to me... it’s like a dream.」

「Fufu. While I've only started feeding them to you recently, I've been sending them to your workplace whenever I had time, haven't I?」

「...What?」

「Eh?」

His pupils dilated, and his low voice caused the atmosphere to freeze instantly. Even the servants standing nearby seemed to feel a chilling shiver run down their spines.

「...Franca, are you saying you've been delivering sweets to the Royal Castle for some time now?」

「Yes. Things that keep well, like cookies, muffins, and financiers...」

I also froze as a bad feeling washed over me. That would have been around the time the Royal Castle was on edge due to the curses.

「How often, and since when?」

「E-err... for about a year now, roughly once a month...」

「Did Lotus deliver them?」

「Yes.」

「Lotus.」

「Yes. I personally saw to their delivery, but I was told you were unavailable, so I handed them to a subordinate in the Finance Department named Castor.」

「Castor... Castor Forge. Ah, I see.」

My husband's face grew grim. Fearing the air in the room was about to hit absolute zero, I hugged him tightly.

「Husband, please control your bloodlust.」

「Ah. My apologies.」

「When you're frustrated, sweets are the best remedy.」

「*Munch*... mm, it tastes like happiness.」

「Then please share some with me, too.」

When I said that, my husband pressed his lips against mine in a kiss. No, I meant I wanted him to feed me a piece of the brownie. Or so I thought, but my husband's kiss was so sweet that it certainly did taste like happiness. And so, I was completely unaware that a sinister hand was creeping toward me.
