The day after registering at the Alchemists Guild, I was making potions in Lord Clein's workshop.
Since I was originally scheduled to practice the Formation skill, it was no wonder Lord Clein was giving me a suspicious look.
「Why are you making potions first thing this morning?」
「I'd say Vanessa-san tricked me, or perhaps asked me for a favor. It ultimately became a situation where it was hard to refuse, so I ended up accepting the request.」
I answered with a slightly sulky expression, clearly pouting even to myself.
To make one hundred potions, the herbs in the workshop wouldn't be enough. Therefore, I had stopped by Obaba-sama's shop before work to repurchase herbs.
Obaba-sama was astonished, asking, 「You came to buy more?」 but I felt the same way. No matter how much I like alchemy, there must be a limit.
Even though I consented, what on earth was Vanessa-san thinking, giving an apprentice alchemist a C-Rank request contract? I wonder if the client side will get angry, let alone the Alchemists Guild.

At this pace, it would be difficult to make the delivery by the end of next week. I had to somehow find the knack again and complete the potions.
「I did write in the letter of recommendation that she shouldn't be made to accept requests for a while, though.」
「Vanessa-san is a free-spirited person. She probably has no intention of listening to that.」

When Lord Clein said that with a straight face, I glanced down at the desk. I realized that because I had only been practicing the Formation skill with Magic Ore, I was trying to do alchemy with the magic circle still laid out.
It was a completely beginner's, simple mistake.
「You're right. Doing alchemy while having the magic circle laid out must have become a habit. ...Hey, if you noticed, you should have told me sooner!」
「Normally, that's something you notice yourself. I was actually impressed that you could even make a potion in that state.」
「I knew something was off! It was incredibly difficult! Since I've gotten this far, I'll stubbornly convert this one into a potion... huff. Phew, I finally made one.」
To mistake the unfamiliar sensation of the Blending skill for my own lack of technique. I realized that I was still just an apprentice alchemist.
Thinking about how careless I was, the moment I was about to put away the completed potion, Lord Clein grabbed my arm firmly.
「Wait. What is that?」
「Eh? No, it's a regular potio—...n?」
When Lord Clein asked me to look at the potion I had spent a long time creating, it was clearly not normal.
It looked like the potion had been affected by the Formation skill, and the components had changed.
「What is this?」
「It's something you made yourself, isn't it?」
「I just made a potion normally. I did think it was incredibly difficult, though.」
「I'll say it again: notice things halfway through.」
「I'm an apprentice alchemist here! I'm going to make a few basic mistakes!」
Even with our small argument, what really concerned us was the potion.
I had never seen a potion like this even when I worked at the Adventurers Guild. If Lord Clein didn't know about it either, it must be quite rare.
Could it possibly be that a new type of potion was born? No, that can't be...
