Thanks to Lord Clein’s excellent guidance, I successfully created a potion and was overwhelmed with emotion.

Looking at the finished potion in my hand, the quality was good. It was a potion that the Adventurers Guild would normally purchase without question.

「Look! I was able to make a good-quality potion!」

「That you did. If you can make a potion of this quality, you can work as an alchemist... or rather, should I say you were working as one—」

「Ehhh! I can become an alchemist!?」

Having this shocking truth—that I could work as an alchemist—suddenly dropped on me, I couldn't contain the excitement welling up inside.

Lord Clein's words alone filled my heart.

「It would be a waste to restrict someone with your eye for potions to just assistant work. You should be active as an apprentice alchemist.」

「That’s not a lie, is it? It’s really okay for me to become an apprentice alchemist under you, Lord Clein?」

To study alchemy under the Court Alchemist. That means I would no longer be just a receptionist hired as an advisor, but an actual budding alchemist—

「I don’t mind. An alchemist whose skills have rusted is just a disgrace, after all.」

The life I had always dreamed of was about to begin.

I would be working as both the Court Alchemist's assistant and an apprentice alchemist.

「However, I won't be lenient. I intend to be strict when it comes to alchemy.」

「Please do! I’ll do anything!」

「Understood. It might not contribute to your reputation right away, Mia, but I'll assign you some simple tasks. First, you need to get used to alchemy.」

Yay! I get to do alchemy every day starting today!

I have work, I get paid, and I have days off. If such a happy life awaits me, I need to officially break off my engagement immediately.

Because I definitely don't want to let this go.

「Well, you can handle C-Rank requests just by delivering this potion... are you listening?」

「Huh? Ah, yes. What is it?」

「No, it's nothing. I just thought that since you admired alchemy so much, you might have something you want to create.」

I thought about it after Lord Clein mentioned it, but nothing came to mind.

I simply like alchemy and have a strong admiration for it.

「Nothing in particular. I’m just happy that I can do alchemy.」

「For someone like Mia, you’ll probably grow faster if you create what you want to create. You should set a goal first.」

「Understood. I'll try to think of something I want to make.」

There are various things that can be created with alchemy:

Potions generated from medicinal herbs, accessories formed from minerals, or magical tools that draw out the power of magic stones.

If you ask me what I want to try making… modestly speaking, I want to try making all of them!

「Well, first things first, assistant duties. There are various tasks I want to entrust to you, such as cleaning the workshop, managing the herb inventory, and inspecting the equipment.」

「Please leave it to me. I was doing all of that while assisting Lord Zeel, so I have a good idea of the routine.」

「As long as you don't change the placement of the herbs or equipment, you can handle it as you like. I've created a stock list for the necessary herbs for research, so let me know if we're running low.」

When I received a sheet of paper from Lord Clein, it listed the types of medicinal herbs and their approximate stock levels. There was no doubt that he was engaged in a wide range of research, handling a considerable variety of herbs.

From what I saw when I was making the potion earlier, some herbs already looked low in stock.

「How do you procure the medicinal herbs?」

「I buy them from a familiar shop. Originally, I would like to entrust the shopping to Mia, who has an eye for quality, but the old woman who runs the shop is quite eccentric. She probably won't sell to anyone but me.」

When it comes to an eccentric old woman selling medicinal herbs, there is only one in the large royal capital: Lady Barbaril, the wholesale grandmother who chases customers away if she doesn't like them and tries to rip them off immediately. Her nickname is 'Obaba-sama'.

She stocks a wide variety of herbs, many of which are high quality, so it makes sense that she is the Court Alchemist's regular supplier.

「I can go to Lady Barbaril’s shop. We get along well.」

「Mia may be sociable, but getting along with that old woman... hm?」

「She’s a unique person, Lady Barbaril, isn't she? She sometimes gives me handmade mugwort mochi as a souvenir, and it's absolutely delicious.」

「Hold on a minute. That's too much information, and my head is going to explode. Let me process this.」

Is it really that surprising that I was given mugwort mochi? The amount of information should be quite light.

「You're talking about the old woman who runs the wholesale shop dealing in herbs and minerals, located just off the main street on the west side, right?」

「Yes. I always went there to purchase supplies when I was assisting Lord Zeel. I've been dealing with her for several years, so I think the shopping will be fine.」

「In that case, I will leave the herb inventory management entirely to you. Just be careful not to get ripped off.」

...Did Lady Barbaril try to rip off Lord Clein, too? Maybe she thought the Court Alchemist had deep pockets and charged him a premium.

「One more thing. Since you’re going there anyway, I'd like you to deliver the potion I just made to the old woman.」

「Understood. Then, tomorrow, I'll buy the low-stock herbs before coming to work.」

「Please do.」

I accepted the potion from Lord Clein and decided to carry it in a small case to ensure it didn't break.

Having just become an assistant, I couldn't afford to make a mistake. I'll complete the delivery and then the shopping.

To start my new life off right and to do alchemy work!
