I Shall Break Off Our Engagement For You

[Chapter 19]

Translated by: ME

That day, Felicia was walking through the noble district of the royal capital with her maid.

For some reason, she felt very cheerful just because Maisie wasn't with her.

(Really, I didn't like Maisie as much as I thought I did...)

She hadn't been subjected to terrible harassment or obvious malice.

Yet, why did she dislike her so much?

She could never explain it well to anyone who asked.

Even if she said it was because Maisie stole her poem ideas or recommended shops, surely no one would understand.

But, she thought it was okay now.

Today, Maisie had apparently told some classmates who weren't very close to Felicia and Rachel that she was being bullied and that she was sad about it.

If it had been Felicia a little while ago, she would have felt guilty for disliking Maisie.

She might have been ashamed of herself for joining Rachel, Cathy, and Brittany in ostracizing Maisie.

But today, she didn't care about any of that.

[Shall we take a break at a café?]

She called out to Carla, her maid who was close to her in age.

Carla nodded happily.

Come to think of it, Carla was one of those who had been disadvantaged because of Maisie.

When Maisie came along, only Maisie and Felicia, as noble ladies, would sit at the table.

Carla would wait outside the shop.

If Maisie wasn't there, Carla would accompany Felicia so that she wouldn't be alone.

It was the same now.

[Order whatever you like.]

She handed the menu to Carla, and Felicia looked around the shop.

Usually, she was guided to a bright seat by the window, but today, since she was with her maid, they were sitting at an inconspicuous seat in the back of the shop.

It was a place that was out of sight from most of the seats.

When she turned her gaze back to Carla, the door of the shop opened and a group of loud voices entered.

Felicia glanced over her shoulder at them as they were guided to a seat near the center.

[Eh...?]

It was Silas and the others.

Toby, Neil, and Maisie were together.

They were soon out of sight, blocked by a partition.

But, their seats seemed to be quite close, and their voices could be heard.

They were speaking rather loudly, so she could hear most of their conversation without even trying to eavesdrop.

[Seriously, you couldn't invite even one friend...?]

It was Toby's voice.

Maisie seemed to mumble something, but it was hard to hear.

[What do you mean, no one will be friends with you?]

Neil asked, and Maisie said something again.

Silas's voice followed.

[I see. That sounds like something Felicia would do. So, she's hanging out with Rachel and the others and ostracizing Maisie, is that it?]

[Really... why would she do such terrible things...? I don't understand...]

This time, Maisie's voice could be heard.

[Actually, I've been bullied all along... They always try to do fun things just by themselves... and they never invite me...]

[I understand. They told me not to associate with Maisie, too.]

Carla noticed and frowned.

Felicia put her finger in front of her lips and said, [Shh.]

Originally, it was Maisie who frequently cut in on gatherings that only Felicia had been invited to, asking, [Can I come too?]

Felicia couldn't believe what Maisie was saying.

Besides, Maisie ended up following them everywhere, didn't she?

She even came along on dates every time.

But, Silas's answer was also surprising.

Felicia had said that she would distance herself from Maisie, but she hadn't told Silas not to associate with Maisie.

She hadn't said it, but she didn't really understand the meaning of him meeting with his cousin Maisie without her, his fiancée.

[Silas, is it okay for you not to listen to Felicia?]

[Isn't it dangerous to anger your fiancée?]

Toby and Neil said, laughing.

[I don't care. Felicia is selfish anyway. When I told her not to associate with Barney, she wouldn't listen, but just because she hates Maisie, she's ordering me to do that.]

[That's right... Why does Felicia take Barney's side...? Doesn't she think about Silas's feelings?]

[That's right. I don't think that kind of woman is really suitable to be my fiancée.]

[I think so too... Because she doesn't support Silas at all...]

Maisie repeated that she was on Silas's side.

[Exactly. Maisie thinks about me much more. The reason I meet with Maisie like this is because Felicia is an inadequate fiancée.]

Silas was completely carried away.

[Okay, I've decided. I'm calling off the engagement!]

[Seriously?!]

[You're kidding!]

[Wahahaha,] the laughter of four people echoed.

Maisie was laughing too.

While Felicia watched Carla turn pale and fidget out of the corner of her eye, she stood up from her chair.
