The introduction of paprika pickles hit its stride much faster than expected. Perhaps because they had already gone through so much trial and error with the sauerkraut, there was almost no confusion regarding the new product. It was off to what one could call a very smooth start.

That said, things were busy. Harvest after harvest was transported to the kitchens of the church and the fortress, where products were manufactured one after another and sent out into the market. Every department was operating at full capacity, brimming with more than enough energy.

Having concluded the long, long social season that stretched from winter to late spring—or rather, early summer—the land-holding nobles departed from the royal capital. Servas, who was supposed to stay for only a short period this time, had apparently been the very first to bolt out of the royal palace.

The old generals, his long-time acquaintances, all exchanged looks at the change in Servas’s demeanor. Watching his father’s retreating figure as he ran down the palace corridor from a slight distance, Gerald also tilted his head in confusion.

「Usually, he’d be dragging us out to drink himself into a stupor while grumbling about how pointless the meetings were.」

A certain Count, an old friend of Servas, shrugged with a look of resignation.

「...It’s almost like how he was when the boys were small.」

「Yeah. Especially since his eldest son gives him so much trouble, he was probably spending the whole meeting with a terrifying scowl, thinking about what to get for a souvenir instead of paying attention.」

The one chuckling with his sturdy shoulders shaking was a certain Marquis. The Count from before let out a sigh.

「His bragging about his sons goes on forever. He’s such an overbearing man.」

「In any era, a father’s affection is never truly understood.」

A certain Viscount nodded as he looked around at his friends' faces. Everyone was busy either nodding or shaking their heads.

「No doubt about it.」

「Do you think he found himself a lady?」

「Doubtful. He’s still devoted only to Lunaria.」

「...Well, as long as he’s in high spirits, that’s fine.」

Watching the old men all nodding in unison, Gerald, by contrast, tilted his head.

(...Was that really how it was?)

He recalled the terror of being hoisted onto his father’s shoulders and taken on a full-speed sprint through the garden when he was a young child. Memories also resurfaced of him and Claude hanging from their father's arms, being swung around so vigorously they felt the true meaning of "centrifugal force" deep in their bones. He also remembered how his younger brother would freeze up with a sour look on his face.

(...To put it kindly, it was a boisterous way of showing affection. To be blunt, it was a reckless way of doting on us.)

He decided to believe it was simply his father’s way of expressing love. A faint, genuine smile played on Gerald’s lips.

(...Wait. Will Magnolia be all right?)

He felt he had no right to worry about his daughter. Even so, he made a conflicted face as he imagined a delicate, small girl being swung around.

(I hope he doesn't crush her in a hug or break any of her bones...)

Staring for a moment at the magnolia flowers blooming in the palace’s beautiful, verdant gardens, Gerald turned back toward the waiting room while harboring those rather grim concerns.

After reviewing the ledgers from the past two months, Servas finally returned to the manor and let out a sigh. He pushed aside the mountain of reports and followed the numbers with his eyes.

「Impressive... Even with low margins, when the volume is this high, it amounts to something incredible. I can see where Dominic was coming from.」

The treatment—the dietary therapy—that had gone unsolved for so long was such a simple concept that he had thought it would take some time to gain trust. However, once the lid was opened, it was accepted with surprising ease. Furthermore, since it was producing clear results, the people at the Guild and the old men at the Association must be quite astonished.

Though he had trusted Magnolia, even Servas was surprised by the results brought forth.

Because lives were at stake and the method was something easy to put into practice, people likely tried it thinking they had nothing to lose, only to find that it actually worked. The rest, as they say, was history.

Influenced by Magnolia’s selfless approach and aided by the efforts of the Champery Trading Company from the Kingdom of Ignis, "Azenda’s Sauerkraut" was rapidly gaining recognition.

In fact, the information was likely spreading more quickly in foreign countries than within the Ascald Kingdom itself.

The Ascald Kingdom, being landlocked and a place where plants grew almost too abundantly, would naturally have no reason to suffer from scurvy caused by malnutrition under normal circumstances. Because it was a major power, there was no particular need to seek a livelihood outside its borders, so the current reality was that very few people ever sought to become sailors. There were likely people who didn't even know the name "Sailing Sickness."

Furthermore, it was perhaps fortunate that the major nobles were currently gathered in the capital. Whether they were just being polite or testing the waters, a few sharp-eyed nobles had commented that Azenda seemed to be prospering, but he never faced any deep prying. It was a relief.

That said, it was only a matter of time before inquiries started pouring in from all directions. Once it became known that the "Princess of Gilmore" was involved in this matter, marriage proposals would surely come flooding in, not just from the Ascald Royal Family but from the royal families and powerful nobles of neighboring countries as well. Ordinarily, this would be an honor, but for him, it was a headache.

From the beginning, Servas had no intention of using marriage to bolster the house. He understood the customs of the nobility—the "theory" of it all.

The fact that he was born into a wealthy, high-ranking family and didn't *need* to do so was a big part of it, but his personality was simply not one that would force a relative into a marriage that required killing their own emotions and enduring long, painful years.

That was why he had unusually asked his son multiple times about his true intentions regarding Gerald’s marriage. The reason he left Claude’s marriage up to him was also because he believed it was best for the person getting married to be united with someone they actually liked.

Magnolia was a child who contained the knowledge of another world and the memories of an adult. Servas believed it would likely be difficult for her to live as a typical noblewoman of this world. Since she was a bright girl, she could probably mimic the surface and camouflage herself to some extent.

However, that didn't mean it would be good for her to keep pretending forever. Eventually, she would wear herself down more than necessary.

(...Gerald probably doesn't know. He seemed to sense something was off ever since her "awakening"—when her memories returned—but unless Magnolia wishes otherwise, it’s better to protect her here in the Margraviate.)

That way, she could live while breathing a little more freely. Servas also felt that living as a commoner, just as Magnolia wished, would allow her to live a life more in line with her heart.

(But that coloring must be an atavism. Either way, if she's left alone, she'll eventually be pulled into national politics...)

It was better to be pulled in while being protected than to be pulled in defenselessly.

(—Even if I were to entrust her to someone in the future, I can't give her away to some half-hearted fellow. It would have to be someone who can understand Magnolia’s uniqueness and has enough power to deflect outside interference... They would also need a certain amount of strength to physically protect her... Does such a convenient guy even exist? It's a difficult problem.)

He wanted to protect her himself forever, but Servas was getting quite old for this world.

He thought of his own father, who had fully protected his strange and mysterious mother. Yes. He let out a sigh, wondering if a convenient partner like his father—someone who met all those conditions—wasn't just lying around somewhere.

***

The Fairy Kingdom of Haltia. A small northern country that had perished over sixty years ago.

The descendants of the Fairy King and the Goddess of Love were said to possess mysterious powers beyond human understanding, rivaling those of the Monteorona Theocracy. It was a power known as "Spirit Power," which at first glance seemed similar to magic.

The difference from magic was that it didn't work through one's own mana or magical formulas; rather, it was "something" triggered by using the power of spirits or fairies. It wasn't the kind of thing one could master through practice (though it might improve slightly), making it extremely inconvenient to use. Fairies were, after all, capricious.

And it was told that they were the only ones who were a crossbreed of non-human beings—and that they later became human in order to live among mankind.

("Not human," they say. They're our... ancestors, so are we monsters? And how do you "become human"?? Honestly, the historical revisionism has gone too far.)

While everyone except Servas himself would agree that he was monster-like...

He didn't know if the power of the legends resided in Magnolia. His own mother, who possessed the same coloring as Magnolia, was an atavism, yet she was supposed to have had only the most faint and hazy of powers.

However, people always flock to powers that transcend human understanding. The allure of taking that blood into one's own line, so that a great power might one day belong to oneself and one's clan, was likely irresistible.

Naturally, Servas, who strongly displayed Gilmore's genetics, did not possess the power of the legends, and neither did Gerald, who had very common coloring. Servas only had a *slight bit of intuition*. Gerald would never reveal it to anyone, but he likely *saw*—or *understood*—more things than most people. As for Brian, he was a boy who seemed entirely unrelated to such things. It was common for traits to fade as crossbreeding continued.

(...Though you could say that the reincarnation of a soul from another world into Magnolia’s vessel was itself the work of some mischief-loving fairy. Or perhaps the Goddess of Love pulled something.)

The recent "blessing" was a perfect example. If there were beings like gods, they were undoubtedly enjoying themselves.

Honestly, she really lived up to being the one who governed the dark attribute. Servas let out his many-eth sigh of the day, thinking that the "Goddess of Love" never did anything good.
