The fun time of the long ride ends for now with this episode.

Upon returning to the town, shouts and screams could be heard.

As they approached the center of the town, the clamor gradually grew louder.

(I wonder what it is. A fight?)

Claude, on high alert, shifted Magnolia from his shoulder to hold her in his left arm and spoke to one of the onlookers; a bewildered voice replied.

「What has happened?」

「It seems there is some kind of dispute, but...」

Nodding, Claude raised his voice.

His dignified voice, accustomed to giving orders, echoed through the area.

「Someone, contact the guard station!」

Young boys who were nearby said 「Got it!」 and ran off.

Claude advanced through the gaps in the crowd of onlookers while heightening his vigilance. In the center of the crowd, two men were shouting at each other. They must have exchanged blows several times. Both of their faces were slightly swollen.

The shouting match escalated rapidly, and one of them, enraged, took out a knife from his bosom and started swinging it around.

(Whoa! ...That’s bad news!)

Reflexively, she grabbed Claude's clothes tightly at the sight of the gleaming knife blade.

「Big Bwother Claude!」

「...No, it is too dangerous to leave you here in this crowd. The knights will come soon.」

Claude answered without taking his eyes off the two men.

Even as he said that, he likely intended to intervene in the worst-case scenario.

While panicked, Magnolia quickly scanned the surrounding stalls, craning her neck and shaking it left and right.

At one of the shops, she found what she was looking for.

(Found it!)

...That must be it!

「Big Bwother, that! Pleashe thwow that at the knife man's face!!」

No sooner had she spoken than Claude began to run in the direction she pointed.

The onlookers who heard the conversation hurriedly cleared the path, and those who didn't know what was happening hurriedly followed suit. The path in front of them split in two.

—This took only a few seconds.

「This one!」

「Yesh!!」

It was less than half the size of the one in her memories... but judging from the faintly drifting ripe scent, she prayed it was the same thing.

When he grabbed the object, it flew toward the knife man at a tremendous speed.

(Mr. Ghost of Wastefulness, I'm sorry! It's a part of lifesaving!)

The man lunging and the man brandishing the knife.

Screams echoing in the crowd.

—At the same time.

Along with a heavy thud, there was a sound of splat! as the pulp was crushed and scattered.

Pale yellow liquid and soft pulp covered the two ruffians.

「Ouch! ...Whoa! What is this!? It stinks!!」

「Argh! My eyes! My mouth...!? G-Gag!!」

(...It seems softer than the Earth version, and the contents are juicy...)

Because of that, the diffusion of the smell was also tremendous.

Magnolia stared with distant eyes at the two men who were the source of the commotion.

It hit a face and exploded... The fruit juice covered both the target and his opponent, and the two of them were writhing in agony from the smell.

One was crouching on the stone pavement, and the other was rolling around groaning.

Lying beside the men was a brown skin (or rather, a shell?) with a spiky form she had seen somewhere before.

(...The ones on Earth don't seem to be that potent (though I've never eaten one), but does the durian juice of this world sting the eyes?)

「「「「「「......!?」」」」」」

The dense fragrance... or rather, stench, spread as if crawling over the entire plaza, and the onlookers backed away with a zuzza sound, distancing themselves from the ruffians.

「What is this...」

「...Eh? Did someone throw some rotten food?」

While the onlookers were buzzing, the members of the knight order, guided by the boys, came running with their footsteps echoing.

With this, the case was settled for the time being.

Even the knights hesitated for a moment as they approached due to the overwhelming smell, but they restrained the writhing ruffians with ropes and took them away to the guard station...

Slipping through the circle of buzzing onlookers, they tried to apologize to the fruit shop owner and pay, but he refused firmly, appearing to have seen the course of events.

The owner here also seemed to have a cheerful personality; giving a thumbs up while laughing, he praised them in broken Ascaldian.

Bowing her head once more, she bought some fragrant fruits as souvenirs for everyone at the mansion instead, and they hurried to the hitching post.

While relieved, Claude turned to face Magnolia with a complicated expression.

「What was that...」

「It's a fwuit.」

「That... is food...?」

Unbelievable, Claude grumbled, looking thoroughly disgusted. Well, she couldn't blame him for feeling that way.

Magnolia spoke solemnly like a proverb and nodded.

「The world of twopical fwuits is pwofound.」

Advancing the horse at a trot, they ran through the town dyed in twilight and entered the territorial capital sooner than expected.

Once inside the capital, even if they slowed down a bit, they would arrive at the mansion in about thirty minutes.

Since they finally slowed their pace, she opened her mouth.

「Big Bwother Claude, thank you vewy much for taking me out today.」

「Yeah. Was it fun?」

「Yesh. It wash delishious, and it wash fun!」

She turned back and answered with a bursting smile.

(And thank you for showing me various things.)

The wooden tags in the office the other day.

She recalled the figure of her uncle deep in thought.

He must have taken the time to bring her out, thinking that seeing things for herself would allow her to judge various things better than asking someone.

「Let'sh go again, okay!」

「Hm? ...Right.」

At the words of his small niece sitting tiny in front of him, Claude recalled the events of the day and smiled wryly.

The sky had completely turned to darkness, and countless stars were twinkling.

Thinking that he wouldn't be bored next time either, he chuckled deep in his throat.

The next morning, a single small seashell, a present from his niece, was placed on the desk in the office.
